The Importance of Cyber Security Awareness
Cybersecurity awareness is the combination of both knowing and doing something to protect an individual as well as a business’s information assets. When users of digital technologies are cybersecurity aware, it means they understand what cyber threats are, the potential impact a cyber-attack will have on them, their business and the steps required to reduce risk and prevent cyber-crime infiltrating their online interaction spaces.
Creating a culture around cybersecurity awareness doesn’t mean that you’ll be completely eradicating the risk of data theft or cyber-crime. Malware has burgeoned, becoming more and more sophisticated as each new strand is developed, and we expect to see the evolution and growth of cyber-threats and malware to proliferate. As new strains of malware grow, people and enterprises need to ensure that they’re implementing the appropriate security measures, being educated and are eliminating any weaknesses that make them vulnerable to an attack. Human error is an egregious exploit that can lead to exploits, fines and severe business damage.

I am an O-level (Lower Secondary) dropout. I have a salon business where I work. I am married with 5 children. Due to the pandemic, I had to close my business as I had to follow the COVID-19 SOP guidelines as stated by the minister of Health. I had to stay home without working because I could not access my customers as it was earlier on. I have a smartphone and I have used the internet before on WhatsApp. I am interested in the WIT program because I would like to know more about e-business and how to expand my business online by learning how to advertise and market my hairstyles and products to many customers.
WiT gives me a chance to expand my businessI am a single mother to 2 children who have managed to provide them with their basic needs through doing laundry works in my community. I have never attended or gotten any formal education. On top of the laundry business, I was working as a waitress at a local bar to earn a little extra income for my family. Due to the pandemic and the lockdown, my customers reduced, the bar that I used to work at was closed leaving me with no source of income, I don’t have a smartphone and have never used the internet. I would like to learn more about technology because I think it will help me learn more about smartphones and help me connect to many customers in order to deliver my services at their convenience, through the WIT program.
I never went to school, but am ready for TechnologyI dropped out of school after my O’Level and got married thereafter. I have been selling Bushera (Porridge and Porridge Flour) for a living till COVID-19 came. My only source of income was shut down and I had to stay home every day for the whole day taking care of my over-demanding children. I have never used a smartphone before, I don’t know what you are now calling social media, internet and have never used them before. I am interested in the WiT Training because for the first time I will get the opportunity to use a smartphone, which can help me expand my Bushera business. I would also like to be taught how to manage my business with technology

I am a teacher at a primary school in Kampala and I am a leader in the Serene Parenting women's group that does different projects, such as soap making, baking, and many others. Due to the outbreak of COVID 19 and the lockdown that came after, we were forced to close down, I also lost my main source of income as schools were closed. It has become hard to make ends meet. I have a smartphone and have used the internet, I am interested in the WIT program because I want to learn how to use different social media platforms and technology to be able to carry out online classes and to download reading materials for my students.
